Antioxidants

Antioxidants in food and supplements work by neutralising harmful free radicals in the body by minimising or preventing the process of molecule oxidation. Free radicals are harmful molecules present in the body that steal electrons, producing oxidative damage to atoms within our cells, which can cause various ailments, diseases and damage. We all have a certain amount of free radicals in our bodies, and antioxidants help keep them within healthy ranges. Many people experience a more youthful complexion, a greater sense of mental well-being, and an increased sense of energy when they consume more antioxidants.

In New Zealand, antioxidant supplements include vitamin C, glutathione, selenium, vitamin E, n-acetyl cysteine, alpha lipoic acid, as well as polyphenols such as citrus bioflavonoids, available in powders, capsules, tablets and chewable gummies.
